The value of a dollar OR Big tough lessons for a four year old

A few weeks after he turned four, Tavin received a card in the mail.
A race car birthday card filled with a loving message and 2 five dollar bills from Grandma and Grandpa.
Needless to say, Tavin was so excited to put money in his piggy bank and wait for Saturday to go and spend his money on a late birthday present.

Well Saturday couldn't come fast enough, so this morning we pulled up to Target at 8:57AM.
Tavin soon learnt that $10.00 doesn't buy a lot. And it definitely doesn't buy the fancy hotwheels tracks. He was getting a little disappointed and annoyed. He began saying, "Everything is too much expensive!!" and "Toys cost too much money!!"
I was also getting a little annoyed. Annoyed at a 17 month old girl who kept pushing the shopping cart into the shelving and knocking down toy after toy and giggling about it.

Finally after 30 minutes of looking, Tavin saw the Disney Cars micro racers. He got an awesome track last Christmas time with four little cars, two were taken outside and lost when we were babysitting - which resulted in Tavin having a month long process of mourning, so he was so excited to see that he could possibly buy some more cars for his track.

So the cute little guy picked out the pack of cars he wanted, for under $8.00, marched them up to the check out counter and began to rattle off his superior knowledge on all things race cars and race tracks. He handed over his money like a pro and was so happy to receive some change to put back in his pocket. (Change he told me will be used on Treat day/Saturday to buy an orange pop from Superstore)

After driving home twice, because I forgot my purse in the shopping cart, Tavin busted open the cars and began racing them. No buyers remorse for him.

Sometimes I really think about taking him to a Nascar race. He would F-R-E-A-K out.

Little does he know, but I went to Target about a month ago and seriously bought about 20 more micro racers and a Mac truck to store them in for Christmas. Luckily, he picked a set of cars I DIDN'T buy. I'm so excited to see the look on his face when he opens his gift. I'll or I mean, Santa will be the coolest grown up around.
