Cleaning a Cabbage Patch Doll

So my little girl got Brooke, her first Cabbage Patch Doll, for her first birthday. 5 months later, Brooke resembled a crazy cat lady after a rough night on the town.
The doll needed a wash. In the worst way possible.
So after Eylee went down for her long evening nap, I sneaked in, baby-napped Brooke away and began what turned out to be a two hour long process of cleaning.
Overall it was pretty easy to clean Brooke, it just took a lot of time and patience.
I knew I didn't want to wash her in the washing machine so that her filling/stuffing wouldn't get messed up. So giving her a "bath" with laundry detergent and water in the tub worked perfect. Just using a wash cloth to rub her down was all it took to get off the grime embedded on her from snot, food, slobber, dirt and whatever else. super easy.
Her hair? Not so super easy. To clean corn silk hair/Barbie hair, you wet it and then add conditioner. LOTS of conditioner. You ultimately massage the tats and tangles out of the doll's hair and then slowly brush from tip to root. Brooke's hair was a fuzzy mess from Eylee snuggling her so much. It literally took me an hour and a half to condition, comb, blow dry (on a low and cool temperature) and re-style Brooke's hair to her original look.
The following pictures are the before and after of Brooke's makeover.
I'm glad I took them since my husband didn't even notice a difference! -kinda like how a guy doesn't notice a girl getting her hair cut I guess.

When Eylee got Brooke back, she got her back in the nude since I needed to wash her outfit. The first thing she did was giggle that her baby was naked and that she could see her belly button. Then she noticed her hair and began chanting, "Mine! Mine! Baby!" She hugged Brooke and gave her kiss after kiss. I found some of my old CPK doll clothes from a huge box of old toys my parents mailed up. Eylee loved helping me put on Brooke's clothes.

^Look at those duck lip kisses!^

I'm so happy I took the time to clean up Brooke. She truly is Eylee's favorite toy. I will definitely have to set aside time each month for Brooke's upkeep a.k.a. spa day.

  1. Little girls and their doll... Love how sweet Eylee is. I should probably clean up some of M's toys but maybe I will save them for when you come visit!
