Potty Training

My favorite thing about being a mom is seeing my child grow and develop. For some reason, it's the most exciting thing to see him learn something new. Yes, I was one of the moms who congratulated my boy after a big poo when he was a newborn and I almost cried with joy when he took his first steps. When he learnt his first saying, "What's that?" I was more than happy to answer his question, which he asked all the time.

But for some reason, I wasn't looking forward to potty training. I was actually very scared about it. All I had ever been told about potty training little boys is that it's ridiculously challenging. But I'm determined to get this kid out of diapers before the next baby comes, so I started potty training this Monday.

I cut up trash bags, put them over the couch and covered them with towels, rolled up the rugs, and prepared myself for many, many, many messy accidents. The first day was just as people described it, ridiculously challenging. I kept giving Monkey lots of water so we would have lots of practice experiences. I devoted my entire day to him and tried to figure out what would help him enjoy "potty time" more.

Then it hit me, my kid is independent and likes to have his own version of everything his Daddy has. So instead of trying to get him to use our potty, I bought him his own. And guess what, NO ACCIDENTS! I just kept thinking to myself, why didn't I buy his own potty sooner??? I'm sure there will still be a few accidents here and there, but overall, I know that my Monkey is excited and enjoying being a big boy who can use the potty.

What was I so afraid of?
